BREAKING NEWS: Large police presence near Barrie school for weapons call

There is a large York Region Police presence in the area around Cundles Heights Public School, which has been placed under a 'hold and secure'

York Regional Police have confirmed they responded at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Steeles Avenue and Yonge Street for a weapons call., which led police to an address in Barrie.

There was a police presence in the Daphne Crescent area.

Police have said it is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety in the area.

UPDATE 1 (2:35 p.m.)

Police say the hold and secure was lifted at 1:35 p.m. More information is expected to be released this afternoon.

Cundles Heights Public School has been put in a "hold and secure" while police investigate a situation in the community.

Students and staff are safe, notes a Tweet from the Simcoe County District School Board.

There is a large police presence in the area. However, it's mostly officers and vehicles from the York Regional Police.

No other information has been released by the school board or police officials.

A hold and secure is initiated when there is a situation taking place in the community. During a hold and secure, activities continue inside the building, but all exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, notes the Tweet from the school board.
