Break-in suspect destroys toilet at detachment, flooding cell block

MIDLAND - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 5:31 p.m. on July 20, 2018 to a report of a male trying to break into two homes on Russell and Manly streets in the town of Midland.

Attending officers were assisted by a resident with locating the male suspect and he was arrested at the scene with stolen property in hand. While in custody at the Southern Georgian Bay detachment, the accused destroyed the toilet in his cell causing a flood in the cell-block area.

Charged is Jordan Welch, 29 years old of Midland, with the following offences:

  • 2 counts of Break, Enter a place - commit indictable offence contrary to section 348 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 2 counts of Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 3 counts of Mischief - destroys or damages property contrary to section 430 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

He was held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Barrie bail court and will to appear before the Midland Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
