On Saturday Nov. 18, 2017, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a female entered the gas station located at Prices Corners in Oro-Medonte Township, Ont. She approached the clerk at the cash register and pointed a knife, demanding money. When the clerk's husband entered the store, the female fled.
She was observed entering the passenger side of a grey Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck which immediately left the property. It was later determined that the Chevrolet Avalanche had been stolen from the City of Barrie.
The Orillia, Barrie and Nottawasaga Crime Units of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been investigating this incident. With information from the public and the assistance of South Simcoe Police Service, Barrie Police Service, and Sault Ste. Marie OPP, both of the suspects involved in this incident have been located, arrested and charged.
On Monday, Nov. 18, 2017, 28-year old Jamie O'Leary of Barrie, Ont. was located at the All Tucked Inn Motel in Waubaushene, Ont. She was arrested and is currently in custody on charges of robbery with a weapon, contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and possession of proceeds of crime, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The stolen pickup truck was located at the time of her arrest.
On Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 at approximately 2:35 a.m., 37-year-old Robert Robertson of Barrie, Ont. turned himself into the Ontario Provincial Police at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. He was arrested and is currently in custody on charges of robbery with a weapon contrary to Section 344(1)(b), possession of property obtained by crime contrary to section 354(1)(a) and drive while disqualified contrary to Section 259(4) of the Criminal Code.
Robertson has been held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie that was scheduled to take place today.
As this multi-jurisdictional police investigation continues, it is anticipated that additional charges will be laid by the Nottawasaga OPP, South Simcoe Police Service and Barrie Police Service.
