Barrie driver charged with impaired in Springwater

Police say they responded to a concerned citizen's call after the 52-year-old was seen leaving a local business

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment responded to the report of a possible impaired driver, which resulted in the driver being located, arrested and charged.

On Dec. 20, 2021 at approximately 10:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Snow Valley Road and Bayfield Street, in the Township of Springwater. A concerned citizen contacted police after observing this vehicle as it left a local business.

The vehicle was intercepted and stopped by officers from the Huronia West OPP. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Suden Lama Lepcha, 52 years old, from Barrie, has been charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Collingwood Provincial Court in January, 2022.

The Huronia West OPP would like to encourage motorists to report potential impaired drivers. Motorists can call 911, or *OPP (*677) on their mobile device and be put in contact with an emergency dispatcher. Using a mobile device to report a potential impaired driver will not result in a charge for using a hand-held communication device.
