Arrest made in Alliston bank robbery investigation

NEW TECUMSETH - On Jan. 3, 2020 at approximately noon hour, members from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to robbery call at the Scotiabank on Victoria Street West in Alliston. 

A lone male party entered the Scotiabank branch from the rear entrance and immediately demanded money from the employees. No threats were issued and no weapon was observed. The male suspect left the bank through the south exit, no vehicle or direction of travel is known at this time. 

Members of the Nottawasaga Crime Unit led an extensive investigation collaborating with surrounding police services resulting in an arrest. 

Dillon Kakanis, age 27 of Georgina, was arrested on Jan. 4, 2020 and charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Disguise with intent
