SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP - On May 2, 2018 at approximately 9 p.m. an Officer from Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on Hwy 400 in the area of Ski Trails Road.

Observation was made of a white Nissan travelling southbound at 185 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the 20-year-old male G2 driver was charged with stunt driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a seven-day driving suspension. The Vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

Barrie OPP remind the driving public that speeding and other forms of aggressive driving are dangerous behaviours and remain a leading cause in fatal vehicle collisions on OPP-patrolled roads.

Speeding, following too closely, making unsafe lane changes and failing to yield right-of-way are all forms of aggressive driving that place road users at risk.

Aggressive driving is one of the 'big four' causal factors in road fatalities that the OPP targets as part of its Provincial Traffic Safety Programs. The OPP remains committed to enforcing Ontario laws associated with speeding and aggressive driving in an effort to save lives on our roads.
