The St. Peter's Panthers swim team returned from the provincial championships in Windsor with not only medals but also a record-breaker.

Head coach Todd Shivers called it a "blazing performance" in the pool for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA), which was held this week at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre.

"Tearing up the pool" was Grade 12 student Jordi Vilchez, who captured two golds and smashed longtime OFSAA records in the 200-metre open boys freestyle, with a time of 1:50.05, and in the 100-metre individual medley, clocking in at 56.56, said the coach.

"As Jordi currently entertains U.S. scholarship offers, this was really a meet to take some pressure off and just go have fun," said Shivers. "Jordi has all of the right ingredients to go really far in this sport and we’re all in his corner."

Vilchez wasn't the only Panthers swimmer to turn in strong results at the provincial level. Other strong performances included:

* Lucian Vilchez, Jordi Vilchez, Scotty Sutton, Noah Shivers — fifth in the open boys 4x50-metre medley relay

* Noemi Blake — sixth in the girls open 100-metre individual medley and 19th in girls open 100-metre freestyle

* Scotty Sutton — 11th in the open boys 100-metre butterfly and 20th in the open boys 200-metre freestyle

* Lucian Vilchez — 12th place in the open boys 200-metre individual medley and 13th open boys 100-metre backstroke

* Noah Shivers — 15th in the senior boys 100-metre backstroke

* Daniel Caraballo — 34th in the open boys 100-metre individual medley.

* Gavin Marshal — 35th in the senior boys 200-metre freestyle.

"That’s finishing the season with a bang," said coach Shivers.
