Special Olympians return from Thunder Bay with 15 medals, personal bests

On March 2, 2020, with a sea of red jackets and flashing medals, 12 athletes and seven coaches returned to Barrie after attending the 2020 National Special Olympics Winter Games in Thunder Bay.  

Our athletes and coaches joined 1,200 athletes, coaches and mission staff from across Canada in this fantastic multi-sport, week-long event.  

The Barrie athletes competed in bowling, snowshoeing, alpine and cross-country skiing. After six months of extensive training, the athletes made Barrie proud with impressive results, including a total of 15 medals, and many personal bests.  

The National Winter Games are a qualifying event for athletes to become members of the Team Canada attending the 2021 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
