Playing their first game of the regular season, the Simcoe County Rovers men’s team wanted to kick off their season on a high note, taking on BVB IA Waterloo, who were looking for a fresh start after missing the playoffs last season.

After a successful first season in League1 Ontario, the Rovers are full of confidence and have high expectations for the upcoming season. The Rovers’ end goal is to win the ultimate prize and lift the trophy.

In a driving rain and tough weather conditions, local Barrie boy Allen Saye-Blegay set up returning player Shawn-Claud Lawson, who opened the scoring for the Rovers for a 1-0 lead. Then, only two minutes into the second half, BVB IA Waterloo tied the game up at one.

The Rovers then used their skill and increased their compete level to gain advantage. They pulled off an excellent finish, with Jevontae Layne netting his first goal in a Rovers jersey with a penalty kick and Shawn-Claud Lawson finishing the game off with his second goal of the match.

The Rovers now turn their attention to their much-anticipated home opener at J.C. Massie Field against Masters FA. After taking care of business on Sunday, the Rovers hope to continue their winning ways and build momentum moving forward.

The women begin their 2023 season when they take on Guelph Union at J.C. Massie Field on April 22.

The women’s game is set for 2:30 p.m., while the men’s game follows at 6:30 p.m. Rogers will broadcast both games and Rock 95 will be on site to amp the crowd. You can catch all the action live at J.C. Massie Field. For ticket information please visit www.roversfc.ca.
