Purple Cobras sink teeth into opposition south of the border

Trio of Barrie teams capture tournament titles; next up is an early December event in Belleville

Three teams from the Barrie Purple Cobras program won titles at the Buffalo Border Blitz.

Three teams from the Barrie Purple Cobras Hockey Association recently returned home from the Grinder Hockey Buffalo Border Blitz following successful appearances.

The 2015 Team 1 scored seven times and routing Toledo, Ohio's Towers Armory, 7-1, in the semifinal before going on to win the 2015 Gold Division with a win over Brighton Ice out of Michigan.

The tournament title capped an unbeaten weekend for the team, which went 5-0 at the tournament. 

Easton Wood picked up the final MVP with a four-goal, two-assist performance, while the goalie tandem of Lochlan Coogan and Barrett Tomlinson combined for a 1.00 goals-against average on the weekend. 

The 2015 Team 2 also won their semifinal match against the Port Huron (Mich.) Prowlers and went on to capture the 2015 Bronze Division championship with a 2-0 shutout win over the Buffalo Regals. Landon Vickers picked up the shutout in the final. 

The 2016 Team 1 was victorious in the semifinal against the Cornwall Black Aces with a 4-1 win to advance to the 2016 Gold Division final. The championship game went right down to the wire, tied at three in the final minute when Kolby Simpson scored the go-ahead goal with 43 seconds left to secure the 4-3 victory and the tournament title.

The next event for the Purple Cobra teams is in the Klevr Super League, running from Dec. 1-3 in Belleville.
