The Huronia Stallions are celebrating another perfect season as the U16 team brought home a AA provincial championship.

On Aug. 6, the Stallions defeated the Quinte Skyhawks 16-10 in the Ontario Summer Football League’s championship game in Windsor.

The win capped the team’s season perfectly with an 11-0 record, which followed the U18 squad’s 2022 perfect season and championship win at the event.

The veteran-laden roster was led by longtime president and head coach Martino DiSabatino, who praised his team’s effort.

“The team was able to gel early in the season and continued to improve throughout and, thankfully, we were able to play some of our best football as the playoffs rolled around,” he said.

The tight, back-and-forth defensive struggle was tilted in the Stallions’ favour by a late-fourth-quarter go-ahead touchdown by running back Michael Wallin to set the 16-10 lead, which remained until the final whistle.

The Stallions defence was led by the strong tackling of defensive lineman Austin Brabant and linebacker Keegan Grant.

Offensively, Huronia was led by running back Matthew Graham, who rushed for 65 yards on 10 carries. He was named the MVP of the finals even though he was forced from the game late in the third quarter with a broken collarbone. Other offensive contributors to the winning side were wide receivers Rylan Varcoe with five catches for 75 yards and Jake Ellen with two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.
