The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team hit the midway point in the season on Saturday when they travelled to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers in Hamilton.

It was another impressive outing for the Grizzlies as they carried the play from start to finish leading to a 74-0 victory.

Tennyson Brown (Alliston) led the way for the Grizzlies scoring a team-high three tries. Last year’s OCAA west division rookie of the year is off to a great start to the season as he has scored six tries in three contests this year.

Teammates Rodrigo Cuello (Uraguay) and Trevor Liley (Pickering) each scored two tries each while Ryan Connolly (Barrie), Donovan Jacko (Brampton), Caleb Jonker (Shelburne), Kurtis Nakashima (Lucan) and Camilo Suarez (Columbia) each had a try each.

Duncan Montague (Barrie) scored 12 points after connecting on six converts.

The Grizzlies moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season and they sit in a tie with the Seneca Sting (3-0) for first place in the OCAA west division standings. Those two teams will not meet until the regular season finale on Oct. 17.

Through three games, the Grizzlies lead the league in points scored (162), points allowed (15) and point differential (147).

Next up for the Grizzlies is a big match against the Sheridan Bruins this coming Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at J.C. Massie Field on Georgian’s Barrie campus.

It is the third annual Battle of the Bears game between the Grizzlies and Bruins with the Brown Bear Trophy on the line.  Georgian won the trophy in the rivalry game’s first year but it is the Bruins who enter as the defending champs having won last season’s contest.

Tickets for the game will be available at the doors for $5 or free to students when they present their Georgian student card.

For those unable to attend, the game will be broadcast live at GeorgianGrizzlies.ca/WatchLive.
