The Barrie Baycats moved into a second-place tie with the Kitchener Panthers in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) standings after a 9-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox on Wednesday night at Vintage Throne Stadium in Midhurst.

The game was initially scheduled for Aug. 3, but was suspended in the first inning due to poor weather.

On Wednesday night, Barrie out-hit Brantford by a margin of 12-5 and took advantage of three Red Sox errors.

The Baycats improved their record to 25-14 with the victory and now sit four games back of the pennant-winning Welland Jackfish.

Brantford dropped to 8-29 with the loss to Barrie.

In other IBL action Wednesday night, the Guelph Royals edged the Majors, 3-2, in London.

Former Baycat Conner Morro’s two-out single in the top of the eighth inning scored Brendan Keys for the go-ahead run as the Royals hung on for a 3-2 win at Labatt Park.

Morro and J.D. Williams each finished with two hits and an RBI, while Keys drove in a run.

Claudio Custodio (3-0), another former Baycat, went six innings for the win. He allowed a run on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks. Yuki Narita struck out three batters over two scoreless innings for his first save.

For London, Cleveland Brownlee and Daniel Battel drove in one run apiece. Andrew Lawrence had two hits and scored.

Owen Boon (3-4) took the loss after striking out six and walking two over six innings. He scattered two runs on seven hits.
