WHAT'S UP: Dunlop Street West project to solve flooding problems (5 photos)

It’s anticipated that Dunlop Street West, from High to Toronto streets, will be open by mid-June

The city and Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority staff have collaborated to develop a solution to reduce the potential of flooding from Kidd's Creek at Dunlop Street West in Barrie.

The solution is to implement an open channel designed to contain the regulatory flow, based on the Hurricane Hazel storm and is greater than the 100-year storm event.

Storm sewer and watermain installation began April 9 between Toronto and High streets.

Dunlop Street West between Eccles and Toronto street remains closed.

It’s anticipated that Dunlop Street West, from High to Toronto streets, will be open by June 15, and Dunlop Street West from Eccles Street to High Street will be open by November, weather-permitting.

The project also included the demolition of buildings, formerly Knights Inn and Sticky Fingers restaurant, on the north side of Dunlop Street West.
