We 'WILL' Walk Again continues Dwyer’s fundraising legacy

People gathered Saturday to help late William Dwyer — known as the Million-Dollar Man — reach his goal of raising $2 million for Terry Fox Foundation

Firefighters from across Simcoe County and beyond gathered Saturday to continue the Million Dollar Man’s legacy.

William Dwyer was a Second World War veteran. He passed away in May 2022 at the age of 96.

In 1981, the Barrie resident set a goal to raise $1 million for cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation, an accomplishment he finally achieved in 2019. He then doubled down, setting a new goal of $2 million.

Dwyer managed to raise $1.2 million for the charity before his death, but his quest continues through the annual We “WILL” Walk Again event.

Firefighters – many dressed in their full gear – joined residents, friends and family to walk around 22 kilometres in occasional drizzly conditions from CFB Borden Legacy Park to Will Dwyer Park on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie.

Those who want to help Dwyer reach his new goal can make a donation here.
