Barrie Police say two Toronto men were the ones who fled the shooting scene Friday night at the Gateway Co-Op on Edgehill Drive.

Media officer Const. Sarah Bamford says a 19-year old Toronto man suffered gunshot wounds in the incident and a 21-year old driver also from Toronto was arrested following the shooting.

"Three suspects are still outstanding," said Bamford. "There is no further information at this time on their identities or descriptions."

Bamford says investigators have obtained surveillance camera video from the area of the apartment building and expect to release it to the public in an effort to identify the three suspects.

The 21-year old driver from Toronto is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and fail to comply with probation and was held for bail.

Officers were called to the building at 90 Edgehill Dr. around 9 p.m. Friday after a report that a person had fired several shots through a closed apartment door, striking a man inside twice.

The injured man and his associate were then seen by witnesses fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Believing that the injured male and his associate were the shooters, witnesses told police that the vehicle had sped from the scene.

Uniform Patrol officers observed the suspected culprits involved in the shooting driving in the area of Tiffin Street and Innisfil Street and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police and engaged officers in a short pursuit, colliding with a utility pole in the area.

The driver fled the scene and the injured passenger was taken into custody.

Moments later, officers located the driver and took him into custody.

The passenger was transported to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre where he was treated for his gunshot wounds and has since been released.

Police feel that this was a targeted shooting, and that the victim was known to the suspects.

"We're still trying to determine why the two Toronto men were there, who they were trying to see or visit and why this shooting occurred," said Bamford.

Police want to reassure people who live in the building that there is security.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who was in the area between 9 and 9:30 Friday night.

"There is no piece of information too small to reveal to police," Bamford said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Barrie Police –Investigative Services at 705-725-7025 Ext. 2129 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
