Two men killed in plane crash near Muskoka Airport

Officials investigating cause of crash

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of a plane crash near the Muskoka Airport Friday afternoon that claimed two lives.

OPP confirm two men in their forties and fifties were killed in the crash, one man from Stratford and the other from Bracebridge.

It happened just before 5 p.m.

A witness said the plane was making a very steep descent to the runway and crashed on the shoulder of the highway.

There were no flames or smoke coming from the aircraft.

Bracebridge OPP closed all lanes of Highway 11 between Hwy 118 & Doe Lake Rd.

A tractor trailer jack-knifed trying to turn around at the scene of the crash and was blocking traffic.

The highway was reopened last night.

The plane was amphibious. All flights into and out of Muskoka Airport were cancelled.

The TSB said it had deployed a team of investigators to the accident site last evening.
