Tween Spa's focus is inner beauty

Glama Gal boosts confidence with natural products

Victoria Rodrigues believes in the positivity of the colour pink.

The proud owner of the Glama Gal Tween Spa is a mother of four, including two girls, and a secondary school teacher.

"I saw a lot of the struggles that teenagers right now are facing and I wanted to provide a safe hub in the community I live in. This is their happy place," said Rodrigues.

The spa located on Commerce Park Drive is decorated in pinks of all shades to bring out the little girl in women of all ages.

But boys are welcome too and Rodrigues says they do come.

"It's celebrating who they are, that being unique and being different is okay. We provide all the spa services and that's a lot of fun but the messaging here is what's more important," explains Rodrigues.

From the tiny white and pink bathrobes to the fancy chandeliers, the spa offers an elegant escape from tween to teen troubles.

Manicures, pedicures and facials are designed to strengthen the self-esteem of young patrons while emphasizing inner beauty.

Glama Gal specializes in birthday parties, spa packages, summer camps and can be geared to specific ages.

The chocolate and banana facial masks smell yummy enough to eat.

The spa recently launched a new line of its own made in Canada natural products including nail shines, facial masks and bath bombs.

Moms can feel good about letting their young ones paint tiny hands with products that are not only odourless but non-toxic and peelable so they don't require polish remover.

Glama stands for  Girls Leading and Motivating Alltogether.

That corporate philosophy extends beyond the spa's futschia walls and tufted bubblegum pink sofas.

The spa offers workshops, guest speakers and welcomes community groups that might need a lift.

And with every purchase of a Glama Gal Nail Shine, one dollar is donated to the Because I am a Girl foundation, helping create brighter futures for girls around the world.

The company's goal is to send 277 girls in a developing country to school over the next three years.

The Barrie Glama Girl Spa opened in May, joining eight other locations in Ontario.

Staff have a variety of backgrounds but everyone loves working with kids.

There will be special classes offered over the holidays.

"It can be a dark time for a lot of girls so the workshops we offer we say provide that pink positivity when they need it in their life," said Rodrigues.

The Glama Gal Tween Spa is located at 21 Commerce Park Drive, unit D.
