Tracking Zach: Our hero gets off to a quick start on Day 2

Zach peddles to Hawkestone and Orillia

Barrie's own Zach Hofer has embarked on an ambitious quest to walk, bike and run hundreds of kilometres from his hometown to Ottawa.

The 13-year-old is raising money and awareness for the new Child and Youth Mental Health Unit at Royal Victoria Regional health Centre.

The shy, humble boy has already surpassed his goal to tally more than $50,000 — even before he took his first steps Sunday.

Here's a Day 2 update from Zach's mom Shelley Hofer:

*************************
Zach has ALREADY completed his 20 kilometres today! He woke up pumped and ready to go— although now he is already planning on sleeping in tomorrow morning.

We started in a Hawkestone and ended on Highway 12 right at the OPP Headquarters.

Zach chose to bike today. We also had a lady biking the other way from Boston who had heard about Zach and caught up with him to congratulate him.
