The Ministry of Transportation launched the Track My Plow online service today at a maintenance yard off Essa Road in Barrie.

The new website delivers real time information on road conditions and plow locations on provincial highways in Simcoe County and Owen Sound.

The site includes live images from more than 100 weather cameras scattered across the highway system as well as weather information, alerts, and weather radar.

It also shows the current and recent locations of winter maintenance vehicles as they travel around the highway system during a winter storm.

"It's intended as one stop shopping in terms of planning your trip on provincial highways," said Kevin Bentley, Director of Maintenance for the MTO.

Track My Plow also features twitter feeds from the OPP and the MTO that will provide information about road conditions and road closures.

The new tool will allow motorists to better plan their route or delay their trip, depending on road conditions.

"We're starting off in Simcoe County and Owen Sound with plans to expand to other contract areas as the winter progresses," said Bentley. "We're looking for public feedback. There's a feedback button on the website."

About 1,000 plows and other winter maintenance equipment will be out clearing winter roads.
