INNISFIL – The Town of Innisfil and County of Simcoe are working together to support residents in the Sandycove Acres area after a main Bell Canada phone line was damaged Monday afternoon, impacting landline calling for some residents there.

Cellular, internet services and landline services offered through other providers in the area were not impacted.

Service was disrupted when a contractor working on Lockhart Road, between 20th Sideroad and 25th Sideroad, cut the main phone line as they were replacing the concrete box culvert to the west of Weeping Willow Drive.

Bell Canada attended to the scene overnight and estimate that full restoration of landline services could take about a week due to the complexity, size and age of the cable.

“We are in constant communication with our contacts at Sandycove Acres to assure them that we will do everything we can do to continue to support them,” said Innisfil Deputy Fire Chief Tim McCallum. “Fortunately, this retirement community is very tight-knit and they have a buddy system, and other important measures in place to make sure that residents check-in and look after one another.”

County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, South Simcoe police and Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services are aware of the issue and will be increasing patrol of the area during peak times to assist until the outage has been repaired.

The County of Simcoe and the Town of Innisfil encourage residents to take a neighbourhood approach while keeping in mind COVID-19 safety and precautionary measures.

Call 911 (from a cellphone or a landline through an alternative provider) if you need fire, paramedics or police to respond immediately to a fire, medical emergency, or a crime in progress. If calling from a cellphone, know your location. Provide a street address or the nearest intersection, and be prepared to describe your location.

Sandycove Acres is a Parkbridge residential retirement community. Parkbridge has notified their residents about the outage and is working with the Town of Innisfil to implement several measures to support vulnerable residents during this time.

This is a developing situation and the Town of Innisfil will continue to work with residents and community partners to provide the latest information and critical services.
