This year, it’s safe to say that many people are home and looking not only for a bit of mid-winter comfort but also for the warm spark of inspiration.

With that in mind, Third Age Barrie Life-long Learning Association (www.thirdagebarrie.ca) has assembled a wonderful group of four young people from the Barrie area who have accomplished much in four diverse fields.

TAB is live-streaming their stories to anyone who is interested, in the comfort of their own homes, from Tuesday, Feb. 2 through Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Tim Irvin has pursued his passion for the environment by creating an award-winning adventure travel company in the Great Bear Rainforest in BC in collaboration with the Gitga’at First Nation.

Dr. Leslie Shanks has a long history with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as Medical Director, Operational Centre Amsterdam, as past President of MSF-Canada, and in many countries in crisis. Her work in Canada includes Aboriginal communities in northern Ontario and Nunavut and she is founding director of Wanasah, a new mental health agency serving Black youth and their families in Toronto.

Jane Kovarikova grew up in foster care and has become a staunch advocate for children and youth in care, founding the Child Welfare PAC Canada in 2017 and becoming the Board Chair of Simcoe-Muskoka Family Connexions, our regional child protection agency.

Shak Edwards is an advocate for youth mental and physical health and founder of Shak’s World, Barrie’s first “for the youth by the youth” centre, run predominantly by young Black community members.

Join Third Age Barrie co-founder Pat Mansfield in conversation with each of these inspiring young leaders Tuesday afternoons Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23 on Zoom.

Tickets for the series are $30 and registration is underway at www.thirdagebarrie.ca.
