CITY OF BARRIE

The City of Barrie will recognize Pollinator Week from June 21 to 27. Pollinator Week is an annual event celebrated across the world in support of pollinator health. It's a time to learn about the importance of pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them.

The City is offering the following virtual activities for the 2021 celebration:

  • The second annual Pic-A-Pollinator Photo Contest invites residents to submit a picture of a pollinator at work in Barrie. The winner will receive a butterfly house and their winning photo featured on the City’s website and social media channels.

  • The Pollinator Week survey asks community members to identify concerns and share their opinions regarding pollinators and their declining population, and what they may be willing to do to help.

  • A variety of pollinator-related activities for all ages, including webinars, tip sheets and resources, provided by the following organizations: Barrie Public Library; Forests Ontario; Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority; Living Green Barrie; Pollinator Partnership and Wild Birds Unlimited Barrie.

The City of Barrie was officially designated as a Bee City on June 24, 2019.
