Student-run event brews up support for Barrie shelter

The event included a ton of support from the community and local businesses

Students of Georgian College's events management program present a cheque for $3,600 to representatives from the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie. The funds were raised during the group's recent Pretty ‘n Spring Garden Tea fundraising event.

A group of Georgian College students brewed up a record-setting $3,600 during a recent event held in support of the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie.

The group members planned and organized the Pretty ‘n Spring Garden Tea event, which was held March 11 in Georgian College Dining Room. It was part of the college’s event management program broke the program record for money raised with their sold-out event.

The event included support from the community and local businesses, including Fox’s Bakery, Sweet B’s, Eclectic Café, My Gluten Free Table, and Hamley’s Tea and Coffee, which donated "delectable" tea sandwiches, scones, quiche, and sweet treats. 

Georgian College’s own chef and BarrieToday food columnist Dan Clements, with the help of culinary student volunteers, prepared a delicious soup for event-goers, who also enjoyed a musical performance by local sensations Nick and Nicole Duquette of the band The Hillbirds, a raffle, live art auction, bake sale and photo booth.
