The month of June is Seniors’ Month in Ontario. In honour of Seniors’ Month, the IOOF Seniors Homes Inc. (IOOF) presented to residents of The Terraces at Heritage Square to discuss the organization’s $42 million redevelopment project, and $1.2-million fundraising campaign to expand the long-term care facility, located at 10 Brooks St., to create 64 new long-term care beds and 66 upgraded beds.

The Terraces’ residents enjoyed refreshments and listened to guest speakers John Nichols, board chair and Garry Hopkins, CEO, IOOF Seniors Homes to learn about the critical needs of the long-term care sector.

Increased acuity (level of care) among the community’s aging population has resulted in rising demands for long-term care. When the redevelopment project is completed, the IOOF will be able to meet the increasingly complex needs of residents who require long-term care.

“Never before has the importance of strengthening the long-term care sector been so apparent than today. With the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the latest census data showing seniors over the age of 85 are the fastest growing group in Canada – now is the time to support our seniors more than ever. We are asking the community for help to raise vital dollars to make our redevelopment project a reality,” remarked Hopkins.

Caring is our reason for being

IOOF Seniors Homes Inc. (IOOF) is a not-for-profit organization, currently operating several facilities located in Barrie and has been serving the needs of residents for over 100 years. The IOOF provides exemplary accommodation, programs, and health-care services to residents through an effective continuum of support that promotes independence and well-being through the latter stages of life.

The IOOF has recently embarked on the largest capital project in the IOOF’s history, with the launch of a $1.2-million redevelopment campaign to expand the facility to a 226-bed long-term care home. This transformative revitalization will create 64 new long-term care beds and 66 upgraded beds, modern spaces, updated equipment, private rooms, and increased square footage.

The new space will be equipped to provide for increased acuity and complexity of care for residents, and will have a lasting positive impact on the community for generations to come. To learn about the IOOF’s redevelopment project and ways you can support, visit www.ioof.com.
