Snow squall warning issued for Barrie area for Christmas Day

Up to 25 cm of additional snow could fall on Dec. 25, Environment Canada warns

Snow squalls are expected to bring up to 25 cm more snow to the Barrie area on Christmas Day, Environment Canada says. 

Environment Canada also warned that travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility.

The squalls are expected to remain over the area today, but may move slowly northward tonight.

Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale

Lake effect snow squalls expected today.

Hazards:
Significantly reduced visibilities from heavy snow and blowing snow.
Snow accumulation of 15 to 25 cm.

Timing:
This morning into tonight.

Discussion:
Isolated snow squalls and local blowing snow with wind gusts up to 70 km/h. Snow squalls will remain fairly stationary through today and then may begin to move slowly northwards tonight.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
