Road closures finalized for Thursday's police funeral

On Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, in order to accommodate the funeral for Police Const. Morgan Russell and Police Const. Devon Michael Northrup of the South Simcoe Police Service, the Barrie Police Service will need to close a number of roads.

The following road closures will go into effect at the times indicated with an anticipated re-opening time of 4 p.m.

  • Bayview Drive from Big Bay Point to Churchill Drive will be closed commencing at 5 a.m.
  • Bayview Drive from Churchill Drive to Mapleview Drive be closed commencing at  8 a.m. 
  • Harvie Road/Big Bay Point Road will be closed from Veterans Drive to Bayview Drive commencing at 5 a.m. These roads are expected to reopen at approximately 10 a.m.
  • Note:  Harvie Road becomes Big Bay Point Road at Fairview Road.

Also, the Dog Off-Leash Recreation Area (DOLRA) located on Bayview Drive will be closed on Thursday. Pet owners are encouraged to visit the attached link https://www.barrie.ca/community-recreation-environment/parks-trails-waterfront/dog-leash-recreation-areas for the location and details specific to the Sunnidale Park site.

Yesterday, members of the Ontario Provincial Police Provincial Liaison Team attended area businesses to advise of these closures.

The Barrie Police Service wish to thank the public and area businesses who will be affected by these road closures and are asking the public to reconsider any potential travel plans into the identified area on Thursday.
