The Department of National Defence says that preparations are underway at Canadian Forces Bases Borden and Meaford to possibly receive Syrian refugees but details have not been finalized.

DND spokesperson Dominique Tessier says the government is expected to announce its refugee plan tomorrow.

Some of the up to 25,000 refugees are expected to begin arriving in December.

Ontario has agreed to accept 10,000.

The exact Canadian Forces Bases that will house refugees and the numbers expected remain to be determined according to Tessier.

In a news release, DND says options are still being analyzed in order for the Canadian Armed Forces to support the initiative.

The release states that the CAF recognizes that some accommodations at various Canadian Forces Bases will need to be prepped for winter weather.

"CFB Meaford and Borden are two locations that will require winterization of accommodations and preparation is currently underway," the release says.

"As a matter of prudent planning, accommodations will be winterized to accommodate refugees if and when they arrive at those locations."

DND is also working with other government departments to provide assistance in transportation and logistical support.
