During the Sept. 25, 2019 Oro-Medonte Council meeting, Council members were provided with video training regarding administration of naloxone hydrochloride.

Naloxone hydrochloride is a fast-acting drug used to temporarily reverse the effects of opioid drug overdoses. Opioids are a group of drugs that includes morphine, heroin, methadone, fentanyl and oxycodone.

Councillor Shawn Scott initiated discussion with fellow Council members regarding the importance of being educated on the use of Naloxone Kits. As members of the Oro-Medonte community, Councillor Scott encouraged all of Council to have access to Naloxone Kits in the event of an opioid medical emergency.

Taking into consideration concerns regarding the serious and significant health impacts of excessive opioid use, Council unanimously supported their willingness to have access to Naloxone Kits.

Members of the public are reminded to call 911 in the event of a medical emergency and are encouraged to learn more about Naloxone Kits, offered free of charge at many Ontario pharmacies, by clicking here.
