Ontario reports 197 new COVID-19 cases today

Ontario has again reported a daily increase fewer than 200 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is the second time this week the numbers have dipped below 200. 

According to Public Health Ontario, there were 197 new cases confirmed since yesterday's update, and there are another 423 cases now considered recovered. 

Testing has remained at or above 20,000 tests per day since Wednesday with 23,278 tests processed since yesterday's report. Ontario labs have now processed more than one million COVID-19 tests.

There have been 12 new deaths reported by the province today, including one person between the ages of 40 and 59, five people aged 60 to 79, and six people over the age of 80. 

To-date, Ontario has confirmed 2,519 COVID-19 related deaths, including 11 people aged 20 to 39, 96 people aged 40 to 59, 666 people aged 60 to 79, and 1,746 people over the age of 80. 

There have been 32,189 cases reported to date with 20,210 of those confirmed in people below the age of 60. 

Of the total cases reported, 83.8 per cent are now considered recovered and 7.8 per cent have ended in the death of the person infected. 

There are 2,709 active cases of COVID-19 in the province currently, with 438 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 103 patients in intensive care units and 77 people on ventilators. 

As of Friday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 513 cases with 436 (85 per cent) now recovered. The health unit doesn't provide updates on weekends.

There have been 36 deaths in the region (35 in Simcoe County) and there are currently six people in hospital with COVID-19. 

There are 41 active cases of the coronavirus in the region, one of which is in Muskoka and the rest are in Simcoe County.
