Nominations for the fifth annual Mayor’s Innovation Awards are now open.

These awards celebrate the year’s most creative solutions from businesses, individuals, and community groups in Barrie. The theme of these awards is Beyond the New Normal, encouraging stories of strength, creativity and adaptation.

“I continue to be impressed by the creativity, innovation and determination of our business and community leaders, especially post-pandemic,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “It speaks volumes to the environment that we’ve been able to create in Barrie — one that encourages and celebrates leadership and collaboration within the community. I look forward to seeing what this year’s nominees bring to the table and the future of our city.”

This year’s awards will bring back three familiar categories: Pivot Point, Creative Collaboration, and Shift Disturber. New categories this year include Youth Innovator, and Research and Innovation Contribution.

Nominations are open to Barrie businesses, organizations, and individuals from all sectors, stages, and sizes. Nominations will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges from across the region and the province. Winners will be announced via a pre-recorded awards ceremony in October 2023.

The deadline to submit a nomination is May 28, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.

Sponsors for this year’s Mayor’s Innovation Awards include Adams Hamilton, Grant Thornton, Meridian Credit Union, Agema Work Inc., Ain Whitehead LLP, and Innovative Automation.
