Murder in Bradford (Updated: Name of man charged)

Jose Fernandes, 55, from Bradford-West Gwillimbury remains in police custody, charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife.

Fernandes will appear in bail court through a video link on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Barrie Courthouse.

Investigators with the South Simcoe Police were called to a Colborne Street residence in Bradford at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived officers found a 51-year-old woman deceased inside the residence.

The husband of the victim was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife.

A publication ban has been issued. South Simcoe Police will not be releasing any further details regarding the case.

This is the second death involving criminal charges being investigated by South Simcoe police in Bradford this year.

James McCallen, a 56-year-old father of four, died in a Toronto hospital in September,  a few days after police say he and his son were attacked and beaten in the driveway of a Centre Street home.

Five people face manslaughter charges.
