Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue - a qualified and trained organization to assist with searching - is joining the ramped up efforts to find a missing Barrie senior.

A city-wide search continues for Mandy Thomson, 72, a missing vulnerable person last spotted at 7:30 a.m. Friday near her north end home.

Thompson has dementia and is prone to wander from her Laidlaw Drive home in the Anne St. North and Hamner St. West area, according to police.

Officers say there have been previous occasions when she has walked quite far and police are very concerned about her well being as she is not dressed for the weather.

The search is now expanded city-wide and beyond including Lake Simcoe and ice huts with Barrie firefighters using their airboat to assist Barrie Police.

Barrie Police Search and Rescue Teams are back at it again today with help from Barrie Fire after working through the night with negative results.

Police say they have been asked by numerous residents how the community can help.

Officers are urging people to check backyards, sheds, vehicles, and garages for the missing woman.

People out walking on paths and through forested areas are also asked to keep an eye out for any sign of her.

Police are asking their social media followers to continue sharing information as it becomes available.

Officers conducted a ground search Friday and used their Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to search large areas from the sky including Sunnidale Park.

South Simcoe Police searched on snowmobiles north of the city yesterday.

Anyone who spots Mrs. Thompson or has any information on her whereabouts is asked to call police immediately at 705-725-7025 ext. 2106 or 2107.
