LIVING GREEN BARRIE

Living Green Barrie is excited to announce the launch of the area’s first Green Business Awards.
Living Green board member Meg Whitton says: “So many businesses in the community are making changes to create a positive environmental impact. We wanted to create an award that highlights and promotes what they’re doing in hopes of informing and inspiring other businesses to do the same.”
Living Green Barrie has made the process as simple as possible because business owners are busy. Nomination forms are available at www.livinggreenbarrie.com.
The Green Business Awards will have two categories. One is for businesses whose purpose is to create environmental change. The second is for businesses who are not necessarily green, but have made some green choices.
This is particularly interesting to Living Green. A Living Green board member was recently at a gas station. Gas stations are not typically considered environmental, but this one had a bulk windshield washer fluid station, so customers could add it directly to their vehicle and not have to purchase it in the plastic container. This is a perfect example of the type of recent change we’d like to hear about from a business.
Nominations can come from business owners, staff or even customers.
No environmental change is too small. Something your business is doing might inspire another business owner to try something similar and improve upon it. The Green Business Awards hopes to reward and promote such changes in our business community.
“We look forward to hearing what businesses are doing in the community,” says Whitton.
The winners of the first annual Green Business Awards will be announced at Living Green’s signature event, Gala In The Woods, on Sept. 16 in Springwater Park. The deadline for you to nominate your business or someone else’s at www.livinggreenbarrie.com is Aug. 21.
