Legend and Legacy Gala honours 12 givers

This is why they are legends

The town crier announced these words over and over again at the Legends and Legacy Gala hosted by the Seniors Wish Association.."

"A Legend has entered the room."

12 Simcoe County residents were honoured for their contributions to the community.

Chair, Barb Richards says the men, women and young adults  are being awarded for enriching our community. "Their stories are inspiring.  Each in their own way have touched lives and made the impossible possible."

Among those honoured was Kris Hughston whose most recent contribution was launching Project Lifesaver Simcoe, a tracking device that helps police to find those who are prone to wander and go missing.

Shelly Hofer was the quiet powerhouse behind  "Zach Makes Tracks" helping her son raise over $100,000 for RVH's Youth Mental Health Centre.

13 year old Amelia Dutka of Clearview Township found out her teacher was battling Stage 4 cancer and went into fundraising mode making jewellery, bookmarks and art pieces giving all her proceeds to her teacher's medical fund.

Jim McIntosh served as Chair for the Hospice Simcoe Capital Campaign raising  $6 million for the construction and opening of the 10 bed residential facility.

Also being recognized for outstanding community service were Doug Measures,Brian Moosang, Gloria Noseworthy, Mark and Joanna Faris, Barbara White, Melissa Haskett, and snowboarding para-athlete Alex Massie.

Proceeds from the Mad Hatter themed gala goes to the Senior Wish Association which reaches out to seniors with intergenerational programs.
