The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District Board is preparing for a return to some normalcy for the 2021-2022 school year and is ready to welcome its youngest learners to in-class learning in September. On Feb. 1, the board is officially launching its Kindergarten registration campaign for the 41 Catholic elementary schools in Simcoe County and Muskoka.

“It has been a long and difficult year for families in our board, but we have seen how incredibly resilient and adaptable our students are,” said Joe Zerdin, Board Chair. “We know that our four and five year olds are ready to make new friends, participate in engaging learning activities, and embrace new routines in a school environment. Starting registration for the next school year provides us with a renewed hope and faith that we are turning a corner and looking forward to brighter days ahead.”

"I am so pleased and excited to welcome our youngest learners to Catholic education at SMCDSB," said Frances Bagley, Director of Education. "This is certainly a challenging time for many families. Whether it’s in a virtual classroom or a physical one, I am so impressed by our Kindergarten teaching teams and their efforts to embrace and foster each student’s God-given talents. We are all looking forward to busy and vibrant Kindergarten classrooms next year with your child being a welcome addition to our Catholic community."

Students who turn four in 2021 are eligible to attend Junior Kindergarten beginning in September of 2021. SMCDSB's Kindergarten program, which is led by a Kindergarten teacher and Designated Early Childhood Educator, provides students with a full-day, play-based learning experience that prepares them for their next stage in learning.

The teaching team encourages independence, fosters responsibility, nurtures self-esteem, and instills Gospel values in order to develop a solid foundation for learning and growth.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their local Catholic school for more details and to register online at www.smcdsb.on.ca/register.
