Khanjin hosts constituency office grand opening to packed house (7 photos)

On hand for the celebration were Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard, Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MPP Doug Downey and Minister of the Environment Rod Phillips

Barrie-Innisfil's MPP officially has a new office for her constituents to head to whenever they have concerns for the local representative.

Andrea Khanjin’s says her south-end constituency office, located at 237 Mapleview Dr. E., Unit 1, at Huronia Road, is perfect for her as it is essentially as close to the Barrie-Innisfil border as possible.

Approximately 50 people jammed into the office Saturday afternoon for speeches and refreshments, much to the delight of the local MPP.

“I am really excited to have this kind of support around me and it really helps to keep me grounded,” said Khanjin. “Having all these people out today helps me to keep going and to persevere and doing the work that I do.”

The campaign office that was used by Khanjin is located next door, but with this location fully renovated and just the right size, the move was a practical one for the team.

On hand for the celebration, among many others, were Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard, Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MPP Doug Downey and Minister of the Environment Rod Phillips.

With much being said about the concern about climate change and particularly the federal government’s proposed carbon tax. Khanjin spoke on the importance on having minister Phillips there to speak with constituents today.

“We have a really good working relationship with all the ministers in our government and it was important to have Minister Phillips here to show we are a united government and are all working together as a team,” said Khanjin. “Minister Phillips and myself have both said that climate change is real and it is man-made so we have to look at our next generation and the things that are important for them.

"A few people of the next generation have said that not only is the economy important to them but so is the environment, so that is a strong signal to the government that they do have to find a solution that is good for both concerns," she added.
