Innisfil Council has set aside about $1 million for improvements and enhancements at Innisfil Beach Park next year.

Those improvement projects, however, have yet to be determined.

“We held a really successful open house with great attendance, and there were more than 500 suggestions shared at that meeting,” explained Deputy Mayor Lynn Dollin.

“We are waiting for a report about what should be done, and we have included a million dollar placeholder in the budget to pay for those projects that will be necessary.”

The popularity of Innisfil Beach Park has grown over the past few years with local residents and tourists from the Greater Toronto Area who crowd the beach on summer weekends.

Overcrowding has led to parking and bylaw issues on local streets and inside the park. Also, the public washrooms are inadequate and upgrades are needed at the boat launch.

“When we have a glorious summer like we just have experienced, we do see some issues with overcrowding at the park,” Dollin said.

“We want to encourage people to be respectful of the park and all of the people, as well as the lake. That might mean they shouldn’t be setting up a big tent right on the beach, or starting a bocce ball game on the bike trail.”

Council will debate the 2016 budget at a meeting on December 9.
