Images Studio Tour provides splash of colour to the region

'Being on this tour is very important because before the tour, I would just catch people who were driving along the road, and now I’m finally getting a bit of a profile in the area,' says local artist

From Moonstone, Horseshoe Valley, Oro-Medonte, and Orillia, artists from across the region are enjoying the return of the renowned Images Studio Tour this weekend.

More than 30 painters, sculptors, photographers, jewellers, and more, opened their homes and studios for visitors to view and purchase their works of art.

The annual event continues today (Oct. 10) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One of the highlights is the extraordinary work of award-winning artist and master printmaker Ian Kochberg, who has revived ancient printmaking practices that pre-date the Renaissance. An artist with seemingly endless patience, he grinds his own pigments and hand-cuts, engraves, and etches his own metal plates.

This year’s tour is the only time that Kochberg is part of the Images Studio Tour, and his stop in the Minesing area on the tour should not be missed.

Another stop on the tour includes the wonderfully rustic studio of painter Margaret Ferraro in Shanty Bay, who specializes in landscape, figure, and floral paintings.

A recent new arrival to the area, Ferraro set up shop at her home studio back in 2019.

A lifelong artist and art teacher, she moved here from the Ottawa Valley and is taking part in her first Images Studio Tour.

“Being on this tour is very important because before the tour, I would just catch people who were driving along the road, and now I’m finally getting a bit of a profile in the area," Ferraro told BarrieToday

The tour is self-guided and continues through tomorrow with the locations listed on their website here.
