The first annual Habitat for Humanity Huronia Car Rally Scavenger Hunt takes place on Sunday, Oct. 23, beginning at the ReStore located at 571 Bayfield St. N., Barrie.
We are excited about this new event, its focus on fun, families and fundraising, bringing the community together to support Habitat for Humanity Huronia.
Don’t know what a car rally is? Well, let me tell you. It’s a scavenger hunt-type of event in which you get together with friends and family in a vehicle (not necessarily a car) and begin a hunt for specific locations listed that range from signage to leapfrogging over one another down the main street of Barrie. There is a registration fee for a carload and pledges are accepted. Photos and video taken with your phone will be proof of location. There will be mandatory stops, extra points, and absolute fun at all times. Most points wins. Rain or shine, we want you there.
Habitat Huronia is focused on providing a hand-up (not a handout) to local families through affordable homeownership. Families can struggle to find safe, healthy, and affordable living conditions, and a Habitat home can open the opportunities and the stability they dream about. A new home is so much more than wood, bricks, and mortar. A home is the safe and secure foundation to a bright future. Our five-unit townhomes at the corner of Essa and Mapleton in Barrie will welcome five local families into their new homes.
The event is not only fun but is about instilling hope and building a better future together.
