Firefighters pull man from Caroline Street home after kitchen blaze

Barrie fire official reminds everyone to clear any areas that firefighters may need to access when on a call

A man was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) after being pulled from a home by Barrie firefighters early Sunday morning.

Barrie Fire and Emegency Services received a call around 2 a.m. to the detached home on Caroline Street that had a kitchen fire in the back portion of the house.

Upon arrival, Assistant Deputy Chief Ed Davis said they were alerted by a man from the front part of the house that someone was still inside.

“Firefighters entered the home, amongst heavy smoke, and found a male in the kitchen, took him outside and performed medical assistance on him," Davis said.

Davis said the man was transported to RVH in stable condition.

The cause was not yet determined, but the Office of the Fire Marshal was called to investigate.

Caroline Street is a side street between Anne and Innisfil streets. Being a narrow street and after the heavy snowfall over the last couple of days, Davis reminds residents to clear fire hydrants and refrain parking on the road so emergency personnel can help people in need if the call comes in.

“There was no problem in this particular incident, oddly enough, because Caroline is a very small street,” Davis said. “But we are just taking the time to remind people to think of emergency crews and what they may need to save a life.

"I will say, though, it appears people are listening because there were no cars on the road last night where we needed to get to, so that is really good," he added.
