While a local family is reeling, Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released a few more details in the Saturday evening incident on Mill Street in Angus that saw Barrie-area residents Joseph Williams, 34, and Savannah Simon, 30, killed while crossing the main street.

On Nov. 9, OPP responded to a call for service involving two pedestrians being struck by an SUV. The collision occurred on the four-lane portion of Mill Street in Angus that stretches between Roth and King Streets.

Simon leaves behind three children, aged three, nine and 11. To read our story on Simon and Williams, click here.

According to an OPP news release, the incident occurred on the open-lane portion well away from the two controlled intersections.

“Due to the technical collision investigators being involved, there are certain specifics I can’t really speak on,” said Const. Chad Wilson with the Nottawasaga detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. “I can tell you they were crossing the road outside of the crossing, in the middle between the two crosswalks.”

According to Wilson, the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox remained on scene and is co-operating with police in the investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.

Whether there will be charges filed will be determined after the technical traffic collision investigation (TTCI) is complete, said Wilson.

“When it comes to a TTCI, they are extremely thorough. There isn’t a set timeline,” he said.

If you witnessed this collision please contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 888-310-1122 or if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
