On the Saturday before Halloween, the Cookstown Chamber of Commerce invites the community to come out and meet the merchants of the Victorian-era village, and go trick-or-treating for free treats.

It’s the Cookstown Boonanza!

On Oct. 30 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., children in costume and their parents can go door to door, to trick or treat at participating Cookstown shops.

Maps of participating businesses will be made available at the chamber office at 19 Queen St.

Adults are invited to join in a Boonanza Witch Hunt, for prizes. Pick up a witch hunt card at the chamber office, then go from store to store to collect stickers from the participating merchants, to be entered into a free draw for great donated prizes. The prize draw takes place at 1:30 p.m.

And there’s more: The chamber of commerce is also giving away free pumpkins.

The pumpkins will be set out in the planters along Queen Street. Starting at 10 a.m., families are invited to pick a pumpkin – first come, first served. As a reminder, face masks and proof of vaccination may be required if entering a business.
