The following is a list of items to be discussed during tonight's City of Barrie General Committee meeting. Check out the full agenda here.
  1. City staff will make a presentation to Councillors about Barrie’s population and employment trends. Learn more.
  2. Councillors will consider selling 44 Hooper Rd. to Darvon Sales, which owns Redline Brewhouse on Bayview Drive, so that it may build a 10,000-12,000 sq. ft. facility for brewing, canning, warehousing and potentially event space. This expansion would allow Redline to employ another 10 people for beer production, packaging, warehousing, maintenance and delivery. The price is $220,000 for Barrie’s last remaining parcel of industrial land. Learn more.
  3. A staff report on domestic video surveillance systems and drones will be received by Barrie councillors, which recommends a communications campaign be conducted to educate city residents about these devices. The report was requested by City Council last year following concerns about homeowner video surveillance appearing to extend beyond one property line and into a neighbour’s land. Learn more.
  4. Councillors will consider terms of reference for a Sports and Entertainment Facility Working Group, which will investigate the feasibility of locating, constructing and operating this facility in Barrie. The 11-member Working Group could include two Barrie councillors, four city staff, three people from community/sports organizations, one from Barrie Baycats and one from the Military Heritage Place Leadership Team. Learn more.
  5. Rezoning of nearly 126 acres of land in south-east Barrie needed to build 773 housing units will be considered by city councillors. Developer Blue Sky wants to build single and semi-detached homes, along with street townhouses at 1005 and 1025 Big Bay Point Rd., and 3320 20th Sideroad. This development would also include nearly 18 acres of public natural heritage land and a neighbourhood park of five acres. Learn more.
  6. Barrie councillors will consider rezoning 103 acres along Mapleview Drive East required to build 810 residential units, a combination of single and semi-detached homes, townhouses and additional units within mixed-use blocks. This subdivision, when completed, could be home to nearly 2,200 people at 970, 1002 and 1006 Mapleview Dr. E. The plan also includes a public natural heritage system, a neighbourhood park, stormwater management and open space/village square space. Learn more.
