On May 2, fellow students, staff and the Barrie community will rally behind 12-year-old Codrington PS student Zach Hofer, who is fundraising for and raising awareness of youth mental health. Starting Aug. 13, he will run, walk and bike from the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Funds raised will go directly to the RVH Youth Mental Health program.

The Zach Makes Tracks campaign to raise $10,000 has gained momentum throughout the community.  Steve Blake, Director of Education, Simcoe County District School Board, Dave McCullough, Chair, RVH Foundation and Mayor Jeff Lehman are a few of the dignitaries that will be on hand to help launch the fundraising event and recognize its significance.

“Zach is an inspiration to the students and staff at Codrington,” says Peter McLean, principal, Codrington Public School. “As a community we are proud of what Zach has accomplished so far, and with his determination to continue to work towards achieving his goal. Our staff and students wish Zach the very best.”

The event will begin at 2 p.m. with formal remarks in the gymnasium. Attendees as well as students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 will complete a lap around the school to kick-off Zach’s walk/run (weather permitting).
