It’s budget time at the City of Barrie, which means it’s time for taxpayers to share their priorities through the budget allocator tool.

The online tool allows residents to try out different spending options for many city services by increasing or decreasing the budget for each area, all while trying to maintain a balanced budget.

“Every day, residents and businesses of Barrie use city services and see their tax dollars at work. The budget allocator tool allows residents to learn more about several services included in the city’s budget and provide feedback on how to spend tax dollars ahead of the Barrie city council’s 2023 budget deliberations,” says Craig Millar, chief financial officer.

Feedback received through the tool by midnight on Jan. 6, 2023 will be shared with Barrie city council during the 2023 business plan and budget deliberations.

The budget allocator tool is an informational tool, and uses approximate figures from 11 major service areas in the city’s budget. It does not represent the entire City of Barrie budget.

Subject to council’s discussions, the budget is scheduled to be approved on Feb. 15, 2023.

In addition to the budget allocator tool, City of Barrie property owners can also learn how the city invested their 2022 tax dollars with a personalized, estimated receipt that provides a breakdown of how their money was used to fund city and partner services.

To share your feedback through the budget allocator tool or to try the taxpayer receipt, visit BuildingBarrie.ca/budget.
