NEWS RELEASE

The City of Barrie is updating its waterfront strategic plan, and wants to continue to hear from residents, businesses and organizations on the next steps in developing the plan.

The waterfront strategic plan provides a high-level framework for the waterfront to drive future improvements. In 2022, there were two virtual public meetings to define the priorities for the waterfront, and identify challenges and opportunities. Residents were asked to recommend waterfront locations to prioritize for upgrades. Based on feedback, three parks were selected and concept drawings have been created to show key features.

A new survey is now open to gain public feedback on the concepts for the three park upgrades and how well they reflect the needs and desires of the community. In this survey, residents have the opportunity to provide comments on the draft concepts for Sam Cancilla Park, Spirit Catcher Park and Minet’s Point Park.

Survey results will be included in a staff report that will go to Barrie city council in late spring 2023.

Residents are invited to complete the survey, which is open until Feb. 6. For further details on the waterfront strategic plan update, visit buildingbarrie.ca/WaterfrontPlan.
