Barrie police issued a warning to residents today about fraudulent emails that have been sent out in the department's name.

Although the fake emails appear to be from the Barrie Police Service, people are being urged to call the non-emergency line at 705-725-7025 and ask for the officer who the email is supposed to be from.

People can then verify the authenticity of the email and whether or not it's legitimate.
