CFB Borden lieutenant-colonel charged with sexual assault

Charges are in response to allegations which were reported to Canadian Forces National Investigation Service in June 2019

OTTAWA - On Sept. 12, 2019, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) charged a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) with sexual assault pursuant to the Criminal Code and with related offences under the National Defence Act.

The charges are in response to incidents which were reported to the CFNIS at CFB Borden, Ont., in June 2019.

Lieutenant-Colonel Daniel Mainguy, a Reserve Force member with Canadian Force Recruiting Group and based in Borden, Ont., faces the following charges.

  • One (1) count of Sexual Assault contrary to section 130 of the NDA pursuant to section 271 of the Criminal Code.
  • One (1) count of Conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline contrary to Section 129 of the NDA.

On June 6, 2019, the CFNIS assumed investigative responsibility into allegations of sexual misconduct which through the course of the investigation revealed two separate and unrelated incidents involving LCol Mainguy.

The matter is now proceeding in accordance with the military justice system for possible court martial at a date and location to be determined.
