CITY OF BARRIE

The City of Barrie is offering new and unique ways to help residents enjoy the season, create special memories with family and celebrate safely throughout the holidays.

Winter Fun ‘in-a-bag’
Following the success of “Halloween-in-a-bag” and the Boredom Buster Box for kids, the city is selling treat bags filled with items families can use to create special memories at home throughout the holidays, and to help ring in the New Year. Bags are $10 each and are available for curbside pick-up at Allandale Recreation Centre, East Bayfield, and Holly Community Centres on select days and times throughout the week of Dec. 14. Bags are on sale to existing recreation account holders. Account holders can order their bag on play.barrie.ca.

Free skates and swims at City of Barrie recreation centres
Starting Dec. 18 and continuing until Jan. 3, the City is offering free swims and indoor skates during select dates and times at recreation centres. These activities will be open to those with existing recreation accounts. Residents can view the schedule online starting December 11. Account holders are reminded to register in advance for all activities, and to follow all stated health and safety guidelines while using facilities.

Barrie’s Virtual Family Countdown on New Year’s Eve
In lieu of the traditional Downtown Countdown and following the advice of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, the city is hosting a virtual New Year’s Eve family hour, featuring a performance from family entertainment group Splash’N Boots. Stay tuned to the City of Barrie’s social media channels on Dec. 31 to watch the show at 7 p.m.

The city reminds residents to follow Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit recommendations to help protect themselves, family, friends and coworkers from COVID-19 this holiday season.
